The Mini IM Missionary Invasion of Uganda
The New Year has arrived and with it International Messenger’s Uganda Project is having many new changes.
In a few weeks two interns and the Morris Five will be headed to Uganda. The interns are Kostya and Vitalik from the Ukraine. They have both graduated from our Mission training center in Odessa, Ukraine. Having them head over as new interns this January is a real stepping out in faith for everyone.
In the past we have sent our graduates from MMT Odessa to other countries in Europe and Russia. But they are the first of these interns to go to Africa. As we look back we can see how God has been putting all the pieces together.
One reason why this is the right time, is because of the establishment of our national staff. The interns will be directly serving with the local church and its different ministries. Both of the intern’s main focus will be to come alongside young male believers and be godly mentors for them. In addition their skills from their education will be put to use. Kostya has a degree as a computer engineer and Vitalik has a degree from the Baptist Seminary of Ukraine.
Their internship will be 6 months in duration beginning in January and ending in June,
Next is the Morris Five: Dan, Loring, and their three kids. They have just finished up missionary training at our stateside training center at Libby, Mt. Interestingly enough is that they come from Montana, only about an hour from the training center.
The Morris five’ situation is a bit different from the other two interns. They have a vision of long-term ministry in Uganda. So unlike the Ukraine interns they will not hit the ground running quite as fast. Instead, their first few months will be focused on getting their home in order. For the first year they will be living in Kampala and serving alongside our national staff members, Joel Amonda and R.E.D. ministries.
We were able to find a house all ready for them a few streets away from the ministry and church. This is a great start, for so often, adequate housing can be hard to come by in the city center.
I leave for Uganda January 12th, arriving on the 13th. The Ukrainian interns arrive on the 14th, and the Morris family on the 15th. I am calling it “The mini IM missionary invasion of Uganda”.
During my time there I will get all the staff introduced, and the living arrangements settled. In addition I will be teaching in the evenings. I will be covering material on the importance of discipleship in the believers’ life.
On January 18 I will take the Ukraine interns and an evangelistic team out in the rural area and will be a part of a 3-day crusade that will be hosted by the Busanna church. The Ukraine interns will spend 3-days going from house to house and village-to-village sharing the gospel and inviting people to the evening crusade in the market area of Busanna. What a way to start an internship ministry!
Prayer Support:
Please pray for my temperament. There is enough happening in the next few weeks for something to go a different direction that I think it should. Pray that I will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and how it is directing the days forthcoming.
For the Morris Family and Interns that they will daily experience the Holy Spirit’s leading. And that they will be open to the many cultural challenges they will be facing.
I need some help with the trip financially. I am asking for 500.00 to cover the added expenses of the outreach. This would help cover the additional transportation, food, accommodation, fuel and other costs related to the outreach.
