December 2011

GREETINGS DEAR FRIENDS,

WHAT IS MISSING?
Yesterday I was having lunch with Pastor Moses at a local café. Just before leaving I heard faint music in the background. I listened closer and realized it was Christmas carols. Then it hit me. Christmas is just over a month away. Why am I just now realizing it is the Christmas season? One reason might be a different climate than I am used to. Living many years in Poland and Minnesota has instilled in me that Christmas happens amid the cold, snow, ice, coats, gloves, and scraping of windshields. But one other more profound factor is the lack of the usual Christmas time commercialism. I do not see the flickering lights, Santa Clauses in stores, or advertisements promoting “Black Friday.” And that is refreshing! That first remembrance of Christmas which I heard at lunch still plays in my mind, “Joy to the world! The Savior has come.”

However, soon I will be back in the middle of the American Christmas. Lord willing I will arrive in Minnesota, December 17. After a few days with dear friends and a much-needed dentist visit, I will be off to spend Christmas with my mother in California.  Between Christmas and New Year’s, I will be in North Carolina, Maryland, and New York visiting kids. Then off to Florida to share the ministry with friends and supporters in Jacksonville.

Then I will be headed to Chicago for a few days, then back to Minnesota for a couple of weeks. While I am in Minnesota I will be visiting the home office in Clear Lake, Iowa, as well as being with friends and supporters of the ministry in Uganda. Then another trip to California. I hope to return to Africa before February 1.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
In my last newsletter I had shared briefly about our financial needs for the ministry. First off, let me say that the outpouring of gifts has been awesome. For me
personally my support is staying around 85% of what I projected before coming to Uganda. But it has been enough, so it looks like from God’s perspective it is 100%. And once again a big thank you to all who help keep me here.

The area where we need financial support is with the ministry projects we sense God calling us into. I will try to be brief but at the same time thorough.

The ministry in Uganda is under the banner of MUM– Mobilizing Uganda for Missions. All the staff with MUM are full-time staff members of International Messengers. We have two layers of accountability.  One is within MUM and the other with International Messengers.

BUDGET NEEDS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
* MUM/African Coalition of Purity want to hold 10 conferences in 2012 with a goal of reaching 1200 men with the message of sexual purity. The cost is around $4000. A good portion of that has been committed already. Praise the Lord.

* MUM Joyful Learning/Resource Centre will be available for women’s language learning and Bible studies, sewing projects, and women’s and men’s leadership development. It will also be the housing for the missionary interns for their training period (see below). The projected budget is $3000 for 2012.

* The last budget need is for the missionary training program. The program will be accepting six interns this first year. The cost to train and send the interns for 10 months is $130 per month per intern. In total it will be $7800 for the interns for the 10 months. These funds will cover such items as travel, food, lodging, and a small amount of pocket change. In addition, even though it will be small, their sending churches will help in their support. For the most part, we are building a mission-sending mentality

in the local church. It will take time for churches to realize the spiritual blessings that are connected with a biblical approach to reaching the world for Christ. I have received a commitment that $3000 of the $7800 will be supplied, once again Praise the Lord.

So, in total, we are seeking $7800 to cover all the above expenses. What church in the USA would not hesitate to support this much ministry for such an amount? Please prayerfully consider supporting MUM in 2012.
