MUM is the word

Mobilizing Uganda for Missions (MUM) expresses the new vision and focus for the ministry in Uganda. It replaces Uganda
Project, which we have used to help identify ourselves and establish accountability for the past eight years.

The first questions that might come to mind are: what makes MUM different than the Uganda Project, and what is the
purpose and vision of MUM?

The difference between MUM and Uganda Project

Our past relationship with the churches we serve was largely a ministry that provided resources, school and church
building projects, short term teams such as the medical outreaches, and discipleship camps.

Purpose and Vision of MUM

Now through God’s leading, we realize that our next project is “Mobilizing Uganda for Missions,” with our primary focus
being our purpose statement that follows:

MUM: To glorify God by coming alongside the local church in Uganda to renew, train, and mobilize believers for active involvement in reaching the world for Christ.

MUM consists of three ministries that strive to fulfill the purpose statement of MUM.

  1. African Coalition of Purity/Uganda (ACPU):

    VISION

To see the Church, the Bride of Christ, become pure, holy, and prepared for her Bridegroom, Jesus Christ.

    MISSION

Mobilizing and equipping men for a life of sexual purity by challenging them to make a commitment to become
pure. Exposing to them the problems of impurity and revealing to them the cost of living impure in God’s sight.
Through scripture, prayer, and small group accountability meetings, we hope to achieve purity and freedom
    from impure thoughts and actions.
  2. Joyful learning Center:

Joyful learning center is a central location for churches in the Busanna area to meet. We have made available material
for discipleship/ pastor training, personal spiritual growth. The center is used for Community outreach through
library, women’s Bible study, sewing ministry, orphan care partnerships with local churches, and health education and
treatment partnerships with available medical staff (nationals and “short-termers”) The area youth ministries use the
    location for youth meetings.
  3. River Nile Missionary Training Center (RNMTC):

RNMTC: Starting January 2012, six or more missionary interns will be arriving at the Joyful Learning Center.
They will be embarking on a 10 month missionary training program. The training will consist of three month of
classroom work, and partial ministry experience. After the three month training, they will be sent to locations
within and out of Uganda. The material that will be taught is similar to what we provide at the two other

International Messengers training centers in Libby, MN and Odessa, Ukraine.
Currently, applications are being given out; we will start the review process next month. I will be sharing a lot
more information about NRMTC with you in upcoming PipesLine Updates.

MUM Staff: Pastor Moses, Pastor James and John Pipes.

The primary ministry focus for Pastor Moses is leading the Purity ministry. Pastor James is the primary leader of the day-
to-day ministries at the resource center. John heads up the mission training and discipleship ministries.

Deb Brandon is not an official IM staff or on the ground in Uganda year round. However, her contributions during the
past three summers (and counting...) have produced the foundation of the women’s ministry in the Busanna area
churches. She has invested her time to training women from area churches who will become key leaders to head up the
women’s ministry within MUM.

As with all mission adventures, funding is essential. In my upcoming newsletter, I will make those needs known. Until
then, I ask you to pray, asking the Lord how you can come alongside partnering with us in “Mobilizing Uganda for
Missions.”

MUM is the word

September prayer Request:

  • A successful start of the Firm Foundations Class at Joyful Learning Center later this month.
  • A weekly Bible study for new believers and pre-Christians that I do with the staff of Cool Breeze Hotel. (This is the hotel we use for our conference in Jinja, and one of the many outcomes of our summer ministry.)
  • The financial support we will need for the operation of MUM.
  • The application process for RNMTC.
  • Men’s Purity Outreach September 15-17
  • For my loneliness. Because I am surrounded by a team that loves and supports me, I am a blessed man.

However, only God can fill the loneliness I speak of from the loss of Alina. At times it can engulf me. I often read
Psalm 23 and remember that Jesus knows loneliness that I will never have to comprehend. Please remember me
in your prayers.

To God be the Glory
